London's The Loyalties and Berlin's Radio Dead Ones pull off the old punk rock trick of each covering a track from the other on this split single available through the Not On Your Radio label. Whilst both songs are fast, loud, and well performed, you can't help but get the feeling that these releases are an exercise in futility. I mean, neither band is going to give the other any of their best songs to cover, so straight away they're working with something less than spectacular. So what we are left with is straight down the line punk rock with no airs and graces. Buzzsaw guitars collide with crashing cymbals whilst the vocalists yelp over the top and it all careers to a halt not long after it's begun. The question I found myself asking was; do I care about any of this? The answer, sadly, is a no.
