Dubrovnic old town was steaming with Yanks. Thousands pour off the various huge cruiseships that dock for 24 hours. They bimble around the old port noisily hoovering up pasta, pizza and a spot of history and then bugger off to Athens, Rome or wherever's next on their Do The World In 14 Days route. Still, the Croats are no fools, publicly at least they are very obliging hosts, which is good business sense really when places like Dubrovnic have nothing but tourism to support them these days.

Hence I join in my humble traveller Bov in highly recommending you taking a trip to the former Eastern Block. In many cases, due to the expansion of the bloody EU, a promise of a British Passport won't get you as much as it used to, but a small roll of banknotes will almost get you as far (especially if they're dollars).
In fact, go the whole hog and pretend to be a Sherman and employ the dangling carrot of a US green card and you could live like a lord for you're whole stay with the added bonus of leaving the locals hating yanks even more by your disgraceful behaviour!
