Still playing the Beirut album almost daily, months after its release though it's arguable whether it counts as its eastern flavours are mixed with more orchestral rock/pop (eg Arcade Fire). Was always a massive fan of a lot of African music, particularly southern stuff from Zimbabwe and S Africa (especially Bhundu Boys and Four Brothers).
Also soukous from the former French speaking colonies. And there was also a marvellous comp that the NME put out in one of its few enlightened moments, in the 80s called World At One; a cracking comp of stuff from all over. Can you imagine them doing that now - their accountants and marketing men would just say "Where's the payback? Where's the advertising revenue?"
Anyway, any good 'world music' people have discovered?Statistics: Posted by Bovine Juice — Fri Jan 18, 2008 2:55 pm
