all the loonies in my street are whiteys and we have a very large collection! (including one who told me he killed a boy and that's why he's a christian now and did i want to see something really scary? (i froze and he went ta-da and showed me his denim waistcoat covered in whitesnake/black sabbath/ rainbow patches) oh and another one who jumped on the back of a van i was in and rode down the street hanging onto the roof rack going woo hoo! and did i want a magic crystal?
um. they are my special friends.

To counteract this argument and to clarify that i'm not a racist/anti-anything that is not the white english male (yawn - can't believe I have to always do this while explaining why I can't live the life I want to!) - everybody knows that 99.9% of serial killers are white males in their 30's and loners. (more yawning)
So unfortunately my stats tell me that due to the behaviour of afro-carribean men and eastern european men I can't go out like I used to. I know that I will not become a serial killer victim but I can look forward to an opportunist rape and robbery event.

P.S - I grew up in clockwork orange territory - 'not thamesmead!' they would cry and I would laugh - I never even had an xmas wreath stolen from my door and yet in the past year and a bit i've suffered nothing but bloody grief.
So this rather long rant concludes with there are no no-go areas just no-go people and they come in all shapes and colours (mine just happen to be the two categories mentioned)

*disclaimer - not all white english men are gentleman and not all afro-carribean men and EE men are rapists - this post is a reflection on my suffering as it stands.

It's true that someone else's patch always seems scarier. I've lived in Catford and Lewisham and both would be listed as no-go areas to someone from outside the area but I always felt fine when I was there. Even more so now in my relatively leafy Penge/Beckenham retreat. Having said that I rarely find myself in the High Street at midnight so it may be a false sense of security.
