I always think of the two Stone Roses LPs as being by different bands. I seem to remember John Squire saying that the sound of the debut was mostly down to the producer (whose name escapes me now) and that The Second Coming was more close to how they sounded in rehearsal and live (before the first album). Just another pub blues band who struck producer gold?! Heresy perhaps but I really love the stone roses. I have absorbed every groove on the vinyl, every ridge (?) on the CD and each 0 and 1 on the stolen mp3 of that record.
As a bit of an urban cowboy I don't think Mike Skinner has yet produced an album a quarter of the shambling quality of the first Streets album but the new stuff I've heard gives me hope.
There's a couple of debut albums that I'm currently awaiting with hope... mainly Josh Weller, Jay Jay Pistolet and, to a lesser extent, Paloma Faith (the single is too safe). There's a nice little quirky folky pop scene going on there.I just hope it doesn't become a "scene" and get all fucked up.Statistics: Posted by BobbyLooga — Mon Jun 22, 2009 11:45 pm
