Along with Roy Paul, Bert was one of my dad's first footballing idols, someone he talks about with huge admiration, not only for his exceptional ability but also the strength of character he showed to charm the crowds in the fashion he did.
For my part I've felt he always came across in interviews as an incredibly humble man with a wonderfully warm nature and a perceptive outlook on the game and life. As role models go you wouldn't go too far wrong with someone like him. The club has become much better at honouring its former heroes in recent years and I hope they can conceive a suitably fitting tribute for Bert, he really deserves it.
RIP Blue!
