every other team goes for it from the start whereas england are as ever miles behind in tactics. i heard darren gough talking the other day about playing sri lanka in the world cup they won (8 years ago?) and he said how shocked england had been by their hitting at the top of the innings.
2 things. 1. why? sri lanks had done it all through the tournament and england learnt nothing from it 2. all teams now do it besides england who stay with their desperately consevative keep wickets for later strategy

in australia injuries meant a change in personnel and mal loye was given a go at the top of the order. i dont for a minute believe loye to be a wold beater but he regularly does this for lancashire, putting on large runs in short times. of course he went home and the same old same old went to the west indies.

is it just an england sportsteams mentality to believe that if you deny that anything is wrong, if you tell everyone that you played quite well and its all going to be ok that it will happen? the football team do it, the cricket team do it, the rugby team did it til recently. instead of looking at the problems and trying to address them and coming up with tactical solutions they each stick with the status quo, pick their undroppable players and hope for the best.

for what its worth i said before australia that we would get beaten 5-0, and the worst thing that happened on that tour was winning the one day series. a drubbing in that (and dont forget we lost more than we won) might have seen a change in approach.

I only saw the highlights. Looked like a great game. Collingwood's catch was superb as was Duane Bravo's two run outs. Funny enough I thought these two were going to be two of the better players of the tournament.
