Totally agree with the scots comments. I have no idea where they got their tight fisted reputation from but i've never come across a more generous bunch of people than when I go out to live there in a sporadic fashion. They shower me with presents and the like. (mind you that's one part of scotland)
I think that living in London makes you unhelpful and inconsiderate. It's a harsh city and it makes you toughen up though I remain too helpful at all times.

I can well believe it, it's no surprise. If a stranger is overly friendly to you in London it rings alarm bells. Well it does for me anyway but that's because I am a weirdo magnet and have had my fingers burned many times.

I'm reading 'Pies & Prejudice' by Stuart Maconie at the moment which has some interesting observations about London and the South of Endland. It's quite a good read if anyone's interested, not as good as Cider with Roadies (that title still makes me smile) but I've only read a couple of chapters so far.

I lived in London for nearly seven years, in a couple of different areas and I do love it. I get excited on my little trips up from the seaside. I could live there again but not forever.
It didn't make me grumpy I guess but I'm not that way inclined.

Thank you, SPT, I had forgotten the name of the man behind the saying. London is a marvellous place with no grumpy, miserable people. Its very pores seep with goodness and vitality and the man who tires of it, nay the woman who tires of it, has been lobotimised.
Can I just say that as a future farmer's wife that I did not say that Londoners were the grumpiest - a survey title said that. I was more interested in the scottish findings.
