being a musician shouldn't alter someone's initial view on music in a negative way. if it does they're probably a cunt, or a crap musician, or possibly both.

knowledgeable, hardcore fans of specialist genres are probably more likely to be close minded in their taste. i couldn't count the number of arguments i've had with garage punk aficionado who feel that all modern music has nothing to offer.

or the general view amongst fans of 'real music' that mainstream pop can only be enjoyed in an ironic, 'good cuz it's bad' kinda way.

for me, getting involved in music broadened my tastes and made me more open to things i may have shunned before. to the point where i believe there's absolutely no right or wrong in music. just preferences.

that said, i'm more passionate about the things i hate as well as the things i love...

but being able to play a few guitar chords doesn't make those opinions any more worthy than if a toddler held them.
