Michael Foot RIP.

I remember back in 82/83, I was 12 and I just couldn't understand why this man that spoke so eloquently and seemed to care so much was being ripped apart by the media 'cos of his hair & his overcoat. My dad said something along the lines of "Get used to it, son. People only care about appearance now. The way he's been treated, it's a bloody disgrace."

There might have been more swearing.

Such a great man.
Always a sad day when another decent and legendary socialist departs, especially when it's accompainied, sadly inevitably, by Journalist's & Nu-Labourites' patronising "those ideas died with him" sentiment.

He’s from that generation (now almost all gone) who went through the war and wanted to build a better world. There are few of them left, either on the left or right, which is a great pity. He was a great Parliamentary performer too, judging by the speeches they played on Today, and a proper footy supporter (Plymouth Argyle).

His hair and coat only mattered to the Daily Mail as their style pages from 1936 to date promote crew cuts, black leather and jackboots as being the height of fashion. And a nice cross, in a precious metal like iron, really sets off that ensemble.

Do human beings believe in things any more? I've got a two day strike starting tomorrow at work and I'm struggling to find people who will be joining me on strike. I know Tony Tourette's out too.

What's the reason for this latest round of strikes then?
