Any one been to the Hackney Trash Bar? I went to a benefit gig for the people setting it up a year or so back. Think it's run by some kind of punk collective and is not meant to be some Hoxton overflow poseurs gaff.
Unfortunately it's a crap venue. Very low stage, so you can't see anything unless you're down the front, a bit claustrophobic when the main room is full and quite the laziest most incompetent soundman I've ever come across. He refuses to mike anything except the vocals, spends most of the set playing with his phone and managed to even fuck up the sound for The Masonics & Thee Spivs, two three piece bands with really easy to manage sound.
In the case of Thee Spivs, he told them it wasn't possible to DI the bass when the bass amp was playing up, only to DI it when the amp conked out completely.
When the London Dirthole Company played there, the whole left stack of the PA wasn't working. When the DJ pointed this out to him, rather than fix it, he replied that the PA is designed so that you can only have one side on at a time and not both at once!
Shame, because they're booking a lot of good bands.
Quite liked Birthdays when Hunx & His Punx played there, but another very low stage and although the sound wasn't bad, the PA seemed to be operating at it's limit, which is never ideal.
