Oblivians wrote some fantastic pop songs really.

here's a song Greg Oblivian (who wrote 'Bad Man') wrote called 'Stop and Think it Over' being performed by his band The Reigning Sound with Mary Weiss of the Shangri Las singing (Greg is on guitar)...



it's not the best version of the song as it's normally sung by him and thus is much, much more raw, but you can still hear how good a writer he is.

Compulsive Gamblers' version is infinitely better IMO Ged.

Sympathy For The Record Industry has the best name and logo for any label i've ever known of. maybe the best back catalogue. when i first started writing songs i used to email bad demos to Long Gone John pretty much every week for about 6 months and he always replied with tips and encouragement, i didn't even have a band behind the songs and i was living in the middle of nowhere so his replies were really, really helpful.




i love lots of Sympathy stuff through the 90's but i reckon their best releases are behind them now.

kind of like the Sub Pop that never sold itself out to a parent company.

One for Johnny A: The Dirtbombs kicking up a storm with

- This is their up and coming 'new' single on Kartel I think; yes it has been released before but only on super limited vinly so we can forgive them for releasing it proper like. The song is just great, rockabilly and punk is such a great combo.

- a bit grandaddy but nice and bouncy, cool stop motion stuff in the vid too.

- proper fuckin' fast rock n roll from the 60's. I just love it when it all explodes! awesome
