i very nearly started a deerhoof thread yesterday. i just ordered friend opportunity having had a borrow of a mate's copy and massively dug it. oh and holdypaws which i hear is their most accesible and pure poppest of previous records. that is what i want from them so that's what i went for. i had a weird thing with deerhoof actually. i saw pictures of them playing live and thought they looked like they were playing music i might like. i liked their faces, clothes and guitars and the way they came across in interviews. i kept coming across them in magazines and on the internet but still hadn't heard them at all. i was in the bizarre situation of thinking "oh deerhoof, i like them" but never having heard a note of their music. then a while back i turned on the radio in my kitchen and heard something that made me do that *oh. my. gosh* thing. i was secretly praying "please say who it is - please say who it is - don't go to an advert". i was coming up with strategies to find out who it was if they didn't say. "right, it's mark riley's show and his track listing is on line, it's just gone half past so this must be the first track after the news". then as i listened more the things that were pleasing me (sweet japanese girly vocals, catchy poppy phrasing, minimal motown meets meg white grooves, dubby lo-fi bass and awesome proto rock n roll, grungy, dusty, bluesy sounding guitar riffs) sounded like those pictures of deerhoof. or how i hoped they might sound... i suppose this story would be funnier if it turns out i was wildly wrong but sadly for you guys and happily for me, i was right. it was they. hooray! since then i picked up a few tracks here and there and it turns out that i do actually like deerhoof's records! can't wait till me new ones get here! |

have just employed the cyber stalking methodology outlined above to discover the identity of the track that made me go "wow" the other day and turns out it was PLUS 81. which is cool. but what's even cooler is this: look what old lardy boy played right before it! hehe go xp! |
