Someone's suggested that kids shouldn't be allowed alcohol before 21... What's your views on this? Personally I think it's a Duff idea (ho ho ho). We should be publicising the effects and dealing with the yobbish elements that abuse it not the masses who don't. Unfortunately here in the UK and Ireland with our social life revolving around pubs and bars rather than cafes, restaurants or dinner parties it's not surprising we get cane it so much. Anyway with all this yapping I feel a tad thirsty... mine's a Pride! |

Nope - if you deny them, they'll want it - simple as - it will increase alcoholism. Who's saying this Bovey? I speak from experience. I have always offered my son a glass of wine with his dinner and because I did not make alcohol a 'forbidden fruit' he's got no interest in it. Most of his friends drink though as their parents denied them it - they think it's 'daredevilish' when Chaz knows he can come home and crack open the vino with his ma. It takes away the glamour and risk. And why 21? Isn't that the American way? We really must stop looking across the water for the answers. Like you said Bovey - this is about educating the masses - yes, the odd indulgence is fine but alcohol kills. It should be discussed. Schools always focus on sex education when what they should focus on is lifestyle education. I'm not talking about 'lecturing' here - i'm talking about showing kids the reality by saying 'Look, it's ok to drink but just remember that if you indulge too much this* will happen' *At this stage show them destroyed internal organs. |

I got assaulted on Friday by a group of twenty fourteen / fifteen years old kids while walking home from the pub, they were all out on the streets drinking. A new law to raise the age of consumption will do nothing, it's just the government trying to sweep a problem they don't know how to deal with under the rug and make out like they are doing all they can to tackle the issue. |

Not so much "Big Brother" as "Baptist Dad". Imagine having to spend your student years sober! Post-18 education would collapse. |

Anyway, once these new talking CCTV cameras come in, security forces will be able to bark orders at young kids wherever they are: "Stop picking your nose!" "Get your hair cut!" "Become a productive member of society!" Fantastic. |
