agreed, couldn't give even the beginnings of a fuck. they're both benchmarks of complete mediocrity in modern music and culture. the bands they've inspired are shite. and Doherty is a shameless cliché well past the point of artistic redemption. |

was never a big fan but i didn't mind the first album and a couple of songs of the second. tha's about it. i have absolutely no time whatsoever for the whole crackhead soap opera thing and both the post libs bands have totally failed to grab my attention. i had a funny libertines related experience the other day though. i was walking along camden passgage in islington past the shop that sells prints of rock n roll stuff. the window's usually full of prints of tom waits, the rolling stones, blondie, the jam, jimi hendrix... you get the idea. a big limited edition b&w print for £250 that kind of thing. well recently they replaced i dunno, u2 and kurt cobain as their main window display with a horrible pic of johnny cocking borrell wearing a cowboy hat and a big print of pete doherty. pete sitting bare-pigeon chested gazing wistfully out of a window infront of a blank wall on which is written in marker pen "libertines 4 ever" and "pete and carlos" both phrases had then been half-arsedly crossed out in what looked like felt-tip. "how very fucking poigniant" pete must have thought. "what are you, a fouteen year old girl writing on your pencil case?" i thought. anyway i knew this naff and unattractive picture was there as i'd seen it in the morning but i was stolling along towards the shop heading out somewhere and i saw two guys standing looking in the window of the shop. as i approached them they turned away from the window and walked past me. it was carl barrat and the drummer form the libertines... i don't know his name, sorry. the tall handsome black guy. i didn't hear what they were saying but they weren't guffawing heartily so can only assume that they have bought into their own bullshit drama too. weird eh? |
