I'm not a fan of competitions, or competition in general really, but, well, Flipron are a bit special so please vote to save their new single Dogboy Vs Monsters in some BBC6 comp.... vote |

what a load of old bollocks (the competition i mean, not flipron). if they like it why not play it? i hate this kind of shit it's just an excuse for the dj to have something to witter on about between records. they'd be better served by filling the space with more records and not bothering with the wittering. if they didn't have to twat on about the stupid vote about whether or not they should play the record or not they's have more time to play it anyway. i voted but wtf is going on with 6 music at the moment? |

Couldn't agree more - less chat more music. But what is it about XFM and the frigging Red Hot Chili Peppers? Are they contractually obliged to play that turgid funk several times in every show? Is that how breakfast DJs (and Sean Keaveney was one of the worst offenders) show how rad and dangerous they are? Drop the millionth play of Californication and play something new - like Flipron, Hellset Orchestra...or the Schla La Las. |

On my uni radio show I would make a habit out of talking a little as possible. At the end of the day, people listen to the radio to hear music. I play a song, or two, then mention the name of the artist & track (there is nothing worse than when the DJ doesn't tell you the artist!) and if they've got any local gigs coming up. 'Features' and 'Competitions' just eat up air time where you could be playing more songs. I'll check out that band though. |

yeah but 6 has been a real haven for me for the last year or so. in fact it via the likes of mark riley, tom robinson even good old steve "britpop" lamacq and... i dunno. yeah alright even phil jupitus kind of rekindled my relationship with radio. 6 is essentially great. it's mercifully ad free, seemed unpretentious, knowledgable and opinionated. different djs brought their own tastes and prejudices and i like that... just lately it seems to be sliding towards that sort of slick bland playlistlessness of virgin or XFM with endless idents proclaiming their own greatness. and the music news cracks me up. it's so shit! lamacq might have say... gaz from supergrass on the phone for an interview and he'll say something like "yeah we've written lots of new songs for the next album and we're really excited about getting out and playing live". then 10 minutes later it's 6-MUSIC NEWS WITH A SERIOUS BUT ATTRACTIVELY YOUNG-ISH SOUNDING LADY "the main headline from 6 music news this hour" (where do they get this bizarre language from?) "gaz from supergrass says: "[i]we've written lots of new songs for the next album and we're really excited about getting out and playing live" *sigh* |
