Do any Citeh fans feel slightly nervous about their club being sold to the deposed Prime Minister of Thailand, implicated in thousands of extra judicial deaths and whose wealth doesn’t come from being a canny saver but from millions of poor Thais?

These billionaires aren’t a good thing – that’s not Abramovitch’s money he’s spunking on his over-priced Chelski team – it’s millions of poor Russians! Didn’t Glazer own trailer parks (and rip off poor Americans) before going into the sports team collection business? Stan Kroenke who wants to buy Arsenal is married to a Wal-Mart (the most evil supermarket in the world) heiress and Alexandre Gaydamak at Pompey might reject claims that his dad put up the money for his latest toy but dad is a billionaire politician who allegedly made his money from gun running and money laundering. Do we want success at any cost?

Don’t you long for the days of Bob Lord and his butchers’ shops, when watching football wasn’t a moral dilemma?

A wider argument would be: is it at actually possible to be an ethical billionaire...?

I would argue that it is impossible to accumulate that level of wealth without some poor people bring ripped off somewhere down the line - whether the billionaire is directly responsible for it or not.

Worth remembering that the status attached to vast wealth only exists because of all the poor people around you. In a world where everyone is a billionaire everyone would have to do their own hoovering..

(For the record, My team has already qualified for the champions league and is already owned by a billionaire family of dubious ethics. NEXT)
