I'm always suspicious of attempts to make ignorance a virtue, but I can't see that being a musician (of whatever kind) particularly helps or hurts when it comes to taste. I suppose playing an instrument might give you an additional perspective, but a boring song is boring no matter how technically accomplished it is (and, likewise, inept playing is no guarantee of originality or authenticity). You don't have to be a muso to appreciate that - simply not being a dick is generally quite sufficient. |
