I wasn't suggeting that one should "think about the backgrounds", but I don't think there's any coincidence in that the two bands who bothered to dress up were also two of the most spirited performers. The groups that dressed for a trip to Tesco were often no more exciting than a trip to Tesco; A trip to Tesco on a day when they've sold out of Pepsi Max and the checkout queues stretch all the way back to the cheese counter!
Also like to add that by doing 9 (proper) songs in about 18 minutes Manic Cough showed a healthy disregard for the hippy tendencies of many of todays young pop hopefulls and that Subliminal Girls do indeed have good pointy shoes!
