90 minutes on indie and britpop. Thought it was actually quite good considering the others I'd seen were not too impressive. Some of the key players were interviewed including Marr, Gallagher, Albarn and Anderson. We could argue that it didn't go far beyond the big players but then that's the point; these people are virtually household names, incredible really.

Will they repeat this?

Well it seemed to me that the programme's main agenda was to show the effect of British indie music on popular culture... As well-trodden as it may be, the Blur vs. Oasis chart war made it onto the 9 o'clock news and Britpop completely overwhelmed the cultural makeup of Britain! It can't not be mentioned in such a context... (and plus I get nostalgic about it so I could watch endless banter about it...)

Its true that these programmes are as interesting for as much as what they leave out as what they leave in. The progression from The Smiths – Stone Roses – Blur/Oasis – The Libertines – Arctic Monkeys made good editorial sense, but could not possibly pretend to be any definitive timeline. No mention at all of: Joy Division/New Order, Pulp, Radiohead to name but three (or four).

I noticed some other oddities in the Madchester section: nothing about Spike Island or the infamous Stone Roses/Happy Mondays TOTP appearance ..
