surely it's irrelevant whether you like the music or not. i wouldn't be tripping over myself to buy the soundtrack but i liked it largely because it didn't attempt to be anything grand. i was committed to full-on sneering before it was even released. sure, it's scrappy and low on laughs but it worked as a simple story set in a dublin without the stage leprechaunics. didn't pick up any hint of it being self-consciously atmospheric or deliberately austere. a cheap and cheerless understatement. 6 out of 10. |
