Good point. The worst piece of sledging ever was probably Aussies v NZ a decade or so ago. New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns’ sister had been killed in a train crash a few weeks earlier. As he walks out to bat all the Aussies can be audibly heard muttering "choo-choo, choo-choo…" A lovely bunch of people I’m sure |

Anyone remember that legendary Allan Donald vs. Mike Atherton session about 6 years ago when they were over here? Athers got a nick through to Boucher off a fine delivery, he didn't walk and the umpire didn't raise his finger... Donald then subjected Athers to an absolute battering with the ball and his face was so vehement I was shitting myself watching it on the sofa... Bet Athers shat himself at the crease 'n' all... Then Donald bowled a peach at him, he got a thick edge through again and Boucher dropped it! Such anger. Such, such anger... Thing is - tempers all round for a few hours there but all dealt with in utter sporting regard. To be quite honest that jellybean nonsense is probably the least offensive of all the incidents but, y'know, it wasn't the height of test match ettiquette all round... Personally I found it quite funny. |
