The School are great (and a Loves spin-off of course) and I reviewed a Brunettes LP a few years back which was pretty ace. A very SoundsXP gig in fact... DATE: Thursday 1st November 2007 DOORS 8pm ADM £5 adv Event: How Does It Feel To Be Loved? presents: Bands: The Brunettes + The School + Wake The President + The Deirdres Genre: indie-pop VENUE: Windmill Brixton, 22 Blenheim Gardens, London SW2 5BZ NEAREST TUBE: Brixton WEB: and TIX: TEL: 020 8671 0700 THE BRUNETTES (New Zealand) We've been fans of Kiwi duo Heather Mansfield and Jonathan Bree ever since they released their 'Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks' album back in 2002, so we're very excited to be hosting this London show. Expect boy-girl vocals, lush Sixties melodies, handclaps, harmonies, and a gloriously dry wit. The band recently signed to Sub Pop, so snap up a ticket while you can. THE SCHOOL (Cardiff) Formed by Liz of The Loves as a side-project, The School sound like genuine contenders: a swoonsome waltz through the best bits of Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, and 60s girl groups. They recently stole the show at the Indietracks Festivals, have just been snapped up by Elefant, and are rapidly turning into many people's favourite new band of the year! WAKE THE PRESIDENT (Glasgow Fronted by Scottish/Swedish twins Erik and Bjorn, Wake The President caused quite a stir at the Indietracks Festival with a drunken, loud-mouthed, fearless and utterly magnificent set that was like watching a young Edwyn Collins, cloned, high on his own runaway talent. Set the words of Arab Strap to the music of Orange Juice and you're close to the brilliance of these newcomers. THE DEIRDRES (Derby) A seven piece from who claim to specialise in 'poor harmonies and communal clappiing', The Deirdres mess around with glockenspiels, tamborines, kazoos, violins, and something called a zube in the pursuit of a good time. Imagine the best bits of Architecture In Helsinki, The Hidden Cameras and every band you've clapped along to like an over-excited five year old. If they're half as fun as their demos, we're in for a treat. ADVANCE TICKETS: MORE INFO: |

That's gonna be a cracking gig. The School are really good live - we put them on a back in July and everyone that seen The Deirdres has good things to say about them. |
