Primarily, the Proms are a cause, not an effect, so far as social forces are concerned. The majority of the Proms' programme (excluding the Last Night) is reasonably varied, but that doesn't matter a jot because the multi-cultural fayre is still only enjoyed by a tiny minority. The proms could be changed by a radical change in Britain's social structure. But Britain's social structure could never be changed by a radical change in the Proms. A radical change in Britain's social structure would leave most of the people on this forum (including me) feeling bewildered and bitter. Hodge is an idiot, even if her heart's in the right place. Hodge's heart is in the right place 7.25% of the time. |
