Not an "emperor's new clothes" band but an "emperors new clothes" record:- Dig Lazarus Dig I know Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have made many a fine record, but this isn't one of them. Some great lyrics, but musically this is just dreary. What happened to the days when The Bad Seeds rivalled the Velvet Underground for embracing different extremes, from the most tender to the most brutal? This record is musically just so middle of the road. |

Think Dig Lazarus Dig is v good, but had the advantage of hearing the songs first at the HMV instore. Even in the relatively sterile surroundings they sounded like they could be the monsters live that they aren't on record... |
