I can imagine at a gig in a small Camden pub they'd be seen as quite 'thrilling' but on a bigger stage they're rather exposed. Their songs had nothing too them and I didn't know what the band 'were' y'know...? Now I'm not much of a cynic but they reeeeeeeally did appear to be taking their image a bit too seriously which is never going to endear you to anyone when the music isn't up to scratch from a watching them live point of view... I mean they may well be very serious about their craft and fair play to them but they fell into the trap of being a bit image conscious which (in these times when too many groups of young tossers form bands because a) they want to be noshed off by 18 year olds and b) they think they've got something REALLY interesting to say when actually they haven't) is always a dangerous game if you ask me... not their fault entirely if they're earnest and passionate about what they do but it's something for them to bear in mind I suppose. That said your market for the band is in no way your average SoundsXP messageboard blitherer so our concerns are probably redundant in the grand scheme of things. I didn't like 'em but for every me who doesn't there's probably 10 youngsters out there who do so I wouldn't worry too much! |
