Despite only having been together for the best part of a year, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are fast becoming the most name-dropped band in underground circles on both sides of the Atlantic. Their debut album will be released on Fortuna POP! in February 2009. “Sunshiney C86 pop with jangly guitars and a slightly fuzzy underbelly, coming across like early My Bloody Valentine meeting the Smiths.” (SoundsXP) http://www.myspace.com/thepainsofbeingpureatheart http://www.thepainsofbeingpureatheart.com THE MANHATTAN LOVE SUICIDES With influences such as The Jesus And Mary Chain, Galaxie 500, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground and a reputation for playing gigs that last anything between 10 - 15 minutes, The Manhattan Love Suicides are for anyone who loves fuzzed up guitar assaults, feedback, hit and run gigs, female vocals, melodic pop, ear splitting minimalist noise and hates a hell of a lot of other things. Fuzz it up and dress it in black! “Musically influenced by both Psychocandy and Ramones... Leave Home in equal measures… live they become even more beguiling almost like an amphetamine-fuelled Primitives.” (Drowned In Sound) http://www.myspace.com/themls MY SAD CAPTAINS London-based quintet My Sad Captains take the country-tinged American sounds of Sparklehorse and Wilco and lend them a sparkling, harmony-rich pop edge, touched with occasional fiery noise outbursts. Their debut single “Bad Decisions” on Fortuna POP! garnered acclaim from Uncut, the NME and Drowned In Sound; radio support from Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Gideon Coe; and its lilo-tastic video featured on MTV2. “Sparkling indie pop in the vein of Pavement, the Lemonheads or Broken Social Scene, and the kind of music it’s possible to fall deeply in love to with people across the room whose gaze you momentarily caught but will never meet.” (RockFeedback) http://www.mysadcaptains.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/mysadcaptains HOROWITZ Horowitz are a lo-fi indiepop band from Stoke whose interests include drinking nice cups of tea, eating lots of Haribo, and listening to twee pop music. Yay! In 2006 they put out a home recorded collection called 'Frosty Cat Songs' with Kitchen Records (LP) and Glo-fi Records (CD.) It is important to make pop music in your bedroom. To have fun and create something you can share. It really is better to eat twinkies with your friends. Me and Trev will be dj'ing on the 17th so it should be a laugh especially as it runs to 4am! There will be a free Pains show the night before on the 16th at The Old Blue Last where they will be supporting Comet gain (if they turn up). It's a twee as fuck night and some sort of ticketing will be in place for reserved entry. More details over at . |

Finally got my (and yours Trev) tickets for the show on the 18th. That means I am at the 16th, 17th & 18th. Apart from the usual suspects any other SXP'ers heading for one of these dates? I will have to give up on the other gigs - was going to go to Colchester but no way of getting home from that one! |
