Hi folks
If you were a John Peel listener back in the 90's you may well remember the Beatnik Filmstars, an English group who released records on Merge and recorded five sessions for John's show before they disappeared off the scene in 1998. Well, the band have been back making records for a couple of years now, firstly for Track and Field and now for my label, TILU. They have a new album out next week called "the Purple Fez 72 Club Social", and its an absolute corker. Think the old Beatniks style lo-fi attitude but now chilled out with harmonicas, slide guitar and accordions. This is a band who have released 9 proper albums along with numerous out-take and singles compliations, have toured with the likes of the Flaming Lips and Guided By Voices - and these days there are few English bands who can boast that kind of record. Many of those who have heard the new album think it is the band's finest hour. If you're looking for reference points, think Will Oldham mixed in with a bit of Pavement/Silver Jews. If you're interested, you can check out some of the new songs at the band's Myspace page

Thanks for your time
