Realistic ones, mind, so no saying the Sex Pistols at the 100 Club if you were aged 3 and living in Aberdeen at the time. Buzzcocks / Joy Division @ Bournemouth Winter Gardens 1979. Curtis has fit and goes off to hospital. Never saw Buzzcocks BITD either so would have been good. Dexys @ Bournemouth Stateside Centre 1980. Just before Geno hit number one. No idea why I wasn't at this one. Probably worried about getting home. |

Big Black - last ever UK Gig @ TJs in Newport. 1987. I had enough money for the train or door charge - but not both. Also last train home was about hour before bands got on stage at TJs. Moe Tucker (with Sterling Morrison) - Liverpool early 90s. I lived in Newcastle. My best mate was at Uni in Liverpool. I was supposed to be visiting him and seeing this gig. I think my student head was turned just prior by a female. I stayed in Newcastle, pissed off my mate and missed my only chance to see Sterling Morrison play guitar. They're the only two that really spring to mind. |

The Special AKA at West Hampstead Moonlight Club, about the time that Gangsters came out. Used to go to The Moonlight all the time, back then. Heard Peel play Gangsters the night before, but decided I'd wait until next time they played as I was tired. Never got another chance to see them in such a small venue. |

Cast* at Brixton (can't remember the year). Oh I was there but the singer lost his voice and so we trundled off to new cross and ended up very drunk, drowning our sorrows and shaking our stuff to a Bowie tribute band instead. *Great band, no matter what any of you lot say. |

Sex Pistols & The Clash at the Black Swan (now The Boardwalk) in Sheffield. I was 16. I know about 3000 people who all claim to have been there. The venue holds about 400. I missed it. ![]() ![]() |

Not sure about specifics, but I rue missing Johnny Cash and Nirvana (though, at the time, the decision to spend my grant money on Mudhoney instead was the right decision). Also I really ought to have got around to seeing Queen and the Cure back in the day when they were my fave bands. Don't massively regret it now tbh, but if I had seen them I would have loved it at the time - much like seeingt he Alarm when aged 15 was great. Would've liked to see the original Sisters of Mercy, but wasn't old enough and seeing the first gig by Floodland-era version at Wembley pretty much made up for it. I suspect that I will probably miss out on Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen unless they come back more often, and I'll regret that too. |
