Get ready for the Indietracks indiepop festival with a cracking line up at this sure to be sold out Lostmusic popshow: 22 July @ The Wilmington Arms, Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell Nearest tubes (Farringdon and Angel) First 40 tickets on sale for £5 - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/46922 The Smittens (Burlington, Vermont) http://www.myspace.com/thesmittens The Smittens are a five-piece indiepop band from Burlington, Vermont and like to think of themselves as a DIY twee pop explosion. Dana Kaplan, Colin Clary, David Zacharis, Holly Chagnon, and Max Andrucki, with help from the talented Emily Hilliard, switch up instruments, song-writing, and singing to create brilliantly lyrical and hyper-catchy pop songs of all colors, shapes and sizes. Formed on a whim at a party in 2002 by a group of popkids who wanted to make for their friends the kind of music they love, the Smittens have emerged as one of the country’s best-loved underground indiepop quintets, with headlining slots in the past year at the New England, New York, Toledo, and Athens Popfests. The bands third album The Coolest Thing About Love, mixed by Eric Masunaga, is out now, on Athens, Georgia’s indie institution Happy Happy Birthday To Me One Happy Island (Boston, Massachusetts) http://www.myspace.com/onehappyislandmusic One Happy Island is an indiepop band from Boston with sloppy DIY tendencies. Chief exports include handclaps, ukulele strings, harmonicas, bittersweetly jangley ballads, furiously unfocused kazoo solos, and unashamed lo-fi recordings. It is the intention of Shannon, Rebecca, Clint, and Brad to take their songcraft and melodies to new levels of fun, fun, and fun. The Melting Ice Caps (London, England) http://www.myspace.com/themeltingicecaps - http://www.themeltingicecaps.co.uk/ "The solo guise of ex-Luxembourg singer David Shah, his love of filthy pop and throbbing synths are back, now with operatic vocals. Delicious. 8/10" - John Earls, Planet Sound on Teletext "I wasn't quite prepared for the brilliance of the Melting Ice Caps. The name had fleetingly caught my attention not so long ago, but I'd not given much attention to the actual music. My loss, for the gig we witnessed tonight was full of utterly brilliant songs. David commanded the stage like a cross between a young Marc Almond and Jarvis Cocker and was utterly compelling to watch" - Pop'n Cherries Standard Fare (Sheffield, England) http://www.myspace.com/standardfare The latest band to join the impressive roster of Thee SPC. They're a three piece fronted by Emma, who's soaring vocals are a mix of Isobel Campbell and Debbie Harry. Their debut release "Dancing" is a tale of broken relationships told to a delicious melody that's musically somewhere between the Lemonheads and Los Campesinos. |
