Did you once chuck an egg at Cecil Parkinson, get your face plastered over the front page of the Mail under the headline SCUM while brandishing a placard saying "Eat more protein!" or storm the chambers of your local council to get a vote on rescheduling the bin rounds aborted? Anyone sent a dog turd to the DVLA? In other words.... What have you done to go Up Yours to the Man?

Ok I'll go first...

Once was part of a group that stormed Lewisham council chamber to ensure they couldn't set the poll tax level. Naturally they just went to a different room to do so...

I took a shit behind a village hall once... that'll learn 'em.

I do have a relevant story though! Once me and the lads were strolling about town (Northampton) round about election time in '01. It was a nice afternoon and we were enjoying ourselves and then out of nowhere up rolls this bus and none other than William Hague gets out and starts doing his 'campaign trail' malarkey and stands up and gives a speech about Europe or whatever single issue the Tories were riding on that year.

Being 18, angry and a Manics fan I firmly believed I was a Socialist. This led me to, when he fell silent between sentences to bellow (I was standing but a foot away from him) "FUCKING TORY CUNT" at the top of my voice... Hague continued unflinchingly, the crowd didn't look particularly impressed (even the chaps from the Socialist Worker paper standing next to me) and my friends seemed uneasy to be in my company. The wheels of democracy remained unaffected and Hague was duly crushed at the next election. Oh well...

Shame I did this, I actually quite like the chap these days... (although he's a Tory I'm always a sucker for a Front Bench politician with a sense of humour. See also Kenneth Clarke...)

That's more like it Westie. Agree about Hague. His politics are no doubt still vile but he's entertaining.

Was once part of a wildcat strike. Seven of us (out of 2000) walked out over an incident at another civil service Department. It wasn't supported by the union so was a bloody stupid thing to do really, especially as some people reported me for wandering around the building trying to drum up support. Spent the afternoon getting drunk, natch.

Viva! Viva! er, viva!

And within a few weeks of joining my current employers I was part of a union organised march over sackings at GCHQ that took place one weekday afternoon. All well and good, only I hadn't actually got round to joining the union at that time... Lucky not to get the elbow again.

Nowadays I spend more time complaining about tippy paving slabs than manning barricades over injustice and inequality though, which is shameful, though still wouldn't disobey an official strike call.

I was active in the Anti Nazi League back in the late 70s, and had a couple of ferocious battles when disrupting NF rallies, including one in particular in Plymouth in, I think, 1978.

In the 1992 election, a Tory called David Faber was campaigning for re-election in West Wiltshire borough (where I grew up). Presumably he had all the local farmers in his pocket, and was able to erect loads of “vote David Faber” signs in the fields near where I lived. On the eve of the election, me and some mates went out in the dead of night and tried to uproot as many as we could. We probably had about 50 on us when we were stopped by the cops. Despite being 16 (with dreadlocks and a Ned’s Atomic Dustbin T-shirt) I managed to convince them I was putting them up not taking them down, and they let us get on with it. Last time I looked, they were still piled up at the back of my mum’s garage.

He won the seat quite comfortably
