Not sure we've ever done one of those lists of first gigs, first LPs, etc and if we did it must have been years ago. So... First LP paid for : Ignoring a few Top of the Pops efforts, it was either Voulez Vous by Abba or Eat to the Beat by Blondie with my first paypacket from the Millers pie factory. First single paid for : Sweet - Blockbuster (though the first I asked for was Ernie by Benny Hill). For a while that, a couple of Gary Glitter 7s and Ray Stevens' The Streak were my singles collection. After that I'd pester for the TofP comps. If you've not treasured Mull of Kintyre performed by what sounds like a load of cowboys you ain't lived. First tape bought : Always hated the format (other than to tape the Top 40 in my early teens and then Mike Read and Peelie when I was around 16/17). Probably C30, C60, C90 by Bow Wow Wow. Not too many since. First CD bought : The Clash - Give Em Enough Rope about 2 years before I got a player c1990 First gig : Blondie @ Bournemouth Stateside, 1979 First festival : Jobs for a Change @ Jubilee Gardens, London 1983 |

First LP paid for: Motorhead - Ace Of Spades 2nd hand or AC/DC 'Highway To Hell' new. I can't remember which came first. First single paid for : Probably Madness - Embarrasment. Or Motorhead/Girlschool - Please Don't Touch First tape bought : Highway to Hell was on cassette. First CD bought : Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands CD Single 1987. Three years before I got a CD player. First gig : Status Quo 1983 Oxford Apollo. I was 12. First festival : 1986 - Donnington Rock Festival: Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Motorhead, Warlock, and Bad News. That was the tail end of my 'metal' years. By 1987 it was all fuzzy guitars and chelsea boots. First weekend festival was Glastonbury 1990. |

I thought this was about our first loves (Tracy Monday at Infants if you must know. I was heartbroken when she moved to Oz) First LP was No Sleep To Hammersmith by Motorhead First single was Can't Stand Losing You by the Police. The first single someone bought me was Touch by the Jackson Five. First tape - no idea. Some woolies cover version compilation no doubt! First CD - no idea First gig - Sandy Shaw at Hackney Baths in 1976 or Screaming Blue Messiahs at Hammersmith Clarendon 1984. Not sure which one is the more credible. The former I guess! First Festival - I guessing it was Reading circa 1988 |

First album was Bolan Boogie by T Rex. First single was Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys. First gig was Queen at sheffield City Hall on 5th November 1974. First festival was the Elephant Fayre in Cornwall, with Siouxsie & The Banshees headlining. First CD was Rattle & Hum by U2. I think the first tape was Aladdin Sane by Bowie, although it could also have been Slade Alive. |

[quote="Bovine Juice"]Not sure we've ever done one of those lists of first gigs, first LPs, etc and if we did it must have been years ago. So... First LP paid for : Probably Fergal Sharkey s/t album or Midge Ure - The Gift (NB had sevveral cassettes before this, as I used only to have a flatbed tape player for music) First single paid for : Dunno - quite possibly Phil Collins and Phil Bailey - Easy Lover First tape bought : Michael Jackson - Thriller First CD bought : erm probably Psychocandy, cos my cassette copy was a bit knacked First gig : Alarm at Rock City '96 I think First festival : Fleadh when Neil Young headlined (in the pissing rain). I found the programme the other day, apparently some bloke called Richard Hawley was first up on the main stage - didn't get there in time for that... |
