I usually buy a poppy or two each year. I wear them for two reasons: Firstly, my grandad on my mother's side was killed in action during the in 1941. I frequently think about his sacrifice and the 7 children he left behind and how difficult it must have been for mum and my aunties/uncles. Secondly: Though I think it's better than it used to be, a proportion of wounded soldiers and bereaved families are treated pretty shabbily by the MOD. The RBL usually step up with aid when the MOD don't, and I'm happy to support them, in a small way, by buying a poppy. I do agree that people shouldn't be chastised for NOT wearing a poppy. That's just plain daft. |
