Well I had a pretty fruitless trip to RT West. Queued for 50 mins just to reach the counter and be told all bar 1 of my 6 items had sold out or were never avaialble (a Fanfarlo single which was US only). Support the idea but won't bother next year.

Went into Head, a weird ex-Virgin shop in Bromley, and saw they had loads of F Lips, Sonic Youth, Sunn O)))), Laurie Anderson 12" and a couple of other things. Since the population of Bromley is about as X-Factor/ Top 40 rundown as you can get, it might be a good place to go if you want one of these and the hipsters have cleared out your central London shop as they may not shift too fast.

Tattersall in Pure Groove was excellent!

Sadly there isn't one record shop I know of in this part of the world. Thank gawd for the net!

Wasn't bothered about the limited editions. I got the Gil Scott Heron album and the kids got Toy Dolls' Nellie the Elephant on 7". So they win over everyone else!

Record Collector in Sheffield have told me they struggle with certain distributors (I don't think hey use cargo anymore, for instance) so, yeah, there's gaps.

But despite that, it's a great shop with nice staff. :)

Half the problems with record shops is down to distribution. If Cargo had decent competition (or if Woolies hadn't gone under) we'd still have half the stores that have shut down and occasional labels like SXP (aka Sounds eXPerience) would be more active.
