HotBeds - “IntenseCity”
London electro-rock duo, HotBeds, release their much anticipated debut album, “IntenseCity”, on September 6th 2010.
Forming in 2009, Andy and Lena have had one hell of a year. Their debut single, “Leave Everything”, took the UK Unsigned Chart by storm last summer with a 5 week run at number 1. High profile live shows at venues including Brick Lane's 93ft East and Islington's Academy 2 followed. The year ended with HotBeds again at number 1 on the unsigned chart - with the haunting, “Christmas Started in October”.
London Tourdates Magazine described HotBeds as the new Ting Tings, if that duo had been made up of Kate Bush and Gary Numan. Other equally confused media sources have cited everyone from Garbage to Joy Division and The Pet Shop Boys. With lyrics focussed on the competitive paranoid claustrophobia of living in London, yet often backed by dance floor focussed rhythms, HotBeds recapture the melodrama and alienation of true eighties pop, yet with a very modern alternative twist.
HotBeds' diversity of appeal is truly evident in their upcoming shows – one a birthday party for indie website Never Enough Notes, another playing for Festival Of Sins at The Dark Mills Alternative Festival.
“Boys”, the first single to be taken from the album, is out the same week. The truly compelling video is a must see - exploring the track's central theme of the catwalk's obsession with androgyny. It wears its low budget DIY tag with pride; self empowerment and independence being core beliefs of the band.
