Accused. First of 6 last night. Good acting and decent story but RELENTLESS misery. I like my grizzly but gripping drama to have at least a crumb of positivity. There was none. *goes off to slash wrists* |

I did enjoy it, but agree it was relentlessly downbeat. Mind you, a Jimmy McGovern drama entitled "Accused" and starring Christopher "Jude" Eccelston is going to offer about as much light as a lead coffin. Not complaining, mind - I'm a big McGovern fan. |

Me too but it was like the highlights of End of the Road condensed into an hour of MISERY - it was that GLOOMY. |

Just got round to the army episode last night - agreed fantastic drama as ever from Mr McGovern. I imagine the army types didn't like it much because it seems to contradict the heroes image that currently dominates the media. Everyone knows that macho bullshit is rife in the forces, as is bullying - look at the real life situation with those cadets a few years back committing suicide. You could sense that the instinctive military reaction was that the victims were 'soft' or 'not up to it', etc. The sobering thing was that, watching last night, most of what Cpl Buckley spouted about trusting the guy watching your back, etc. had an extreme-situation credibility about it.... ![]() |
