Weekend

Slumberland Records (The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Crystal Stilts, Frankie Rose And The Outs etc) latest signings, WEEKEND are coming to the UK for the first time.
Weekend filter the aggression, tempo and sneer of punk through a wall of reverb, haunting melody, feedback and primitive garage guitar. Formed in San Francisco in late 2009, the band have quickly developed a totally distinctive take on the history of noise rock. Combining noisy guitars, pounding rhythms and dark post-punk vibes in fresh ways isn't easy, but Weekend somehow make it look like it is.
Their new album Sports is one of the most assured debuts in recent memory, full of rumbling rhythms, layers of LOUD guitars and most of all great songs that pay special attention to texture and atmosphere, and leaven even the most riotous moments with unexpected shards of melody. "Coma Summer" kicks things off in stunning fashion, an epic slice of noise/gaze that stands tall with No Age's best power-drone. "Monday Morning" is a dreamy noisescape, a perfect lead-in to the driving, punky "Monongah, WV," which is blessed with a chorus melody a lot of straight pop bands would kill for.
"In case you haven't gotten it yet, Sports is loud as all hell, as even the sweetest melodies (the doe-eyed blare of "End Times", especially) are surrounded with a maelstrom of negative sonic waves" - Pitchfork on their LP Sports
"For a band still very much in its infancy, Sports is an astonishing body of work far beyond any kind of expectation you'd put at its creators' feet. As a result, one can only watch and listen with great anticipation as to what Weekend's next move may be." - Drowned In Sound on their LP Sports
Dignan Porch
http://www.myspace.com/dignanporch
From Tooting, South London, Dignan Porch is brothers Joe and Sam on guitars and friends Ben on Bass, Philippa on Drums and Hayley on keyboard. First album 'Tendrils' released on Captured Tracks, is a psyched out collection of blissful pop, noise rock and bedroom experimentations. Song subject matter is often dreamy and abstract, favouring catchy pop structures and freaky effects. At times they touch on folk, exploring melancholic and thoughtful states of mind.
"Dignan Porch are several matches made in heaven. all the way from exoic tooting, the group touch down into the effects-heavy shoegaze/dream pop world with some lovely vocals and harmonics but they really fly when they unashamedly let loose on the slacker guitar-hero stuff. we're not talkingd dinosaur jr. here, they're slightly easier on the ear than mascis' worse excesses, but 'tendrils' is bursting with coolness and melodies to kill or die for" - Rough Trade
"Slightly tussled London quartet Dignan Porch have created an unassuming, but addictive rainy-day bedroom-pop gem with Tendrils, their full-length debut. The hushed, layered, hazy and downcast psychedelia might remind you of various early New Zealand pop crews of the Flying Nun sort (slowed to 1/4 speed). Or you could go back to the UK and talk about Sarah Records, though there’s often something weirder woven into the compositions." - Stereogum
Trogons
http://www.myspace.com/trogonon
Trogons are new psych pioneers from London (featuring current or ex members of Human Race/Kasms/Betty & The Werewolves/Spin Spin The Dogs). Their sound hints at 60's nuggets style garage punk with swirling psych guitars and a dash of early Jefferson Airplane. This lot are going to be a little bit special and they've got their debut release coming out on uber cool cassette label Suplex Cassettes in February.
Winston Echo

"Winston Echo is the crabby writer of love songs, the dreamer in pessimist clothing; he's on the outside of the box where we all are, and leads us hand-clapped into singalong-a-bittersweet triumph! ours is the quiet victory of joy mapped out by modern lovers and friendly ghosts - deep charted waters to an outlook previously known to us: an open observance and naive attendance; a song you sing to keep yourself company - and that's as punk as punk can get! and winston echo could be the best thing we ever had"
