Going along for a bit then onto RoTa at 4pm..... This is on at RoTa: Rough Trade & Notting Hill Arts Club have asked Hello Thor to curate their upcoming RoTa afternoon gig - this Saturday (21st May), 4pm - 8pm. Free entry. These free gigs are an extension of Rough Trade's classic instore gigs but they take place every month @ Notting Hill Arts Club (nearest tube Notting Hill Gate). For our RoTa afternoon we'll be bringing you live sets from: WARM BRAINS The solo project of DIY producer du jour Rory Attwell (S.C.U.M, Comanechi, Fair Ohs, Male Bonding, Veronica Falls), Warm Brains' debut single Old Vocanoes (out now on Marshall Teller Records) was recorded and produced entirely by the ex-Test Icicles and KASM man. Warm Brains is fuzzy, dreamlike, droning, carefully-woven, lo-fi slacker pop. www.warmbrains.com FISTS A Nottingham based 5-piece whose sound is a sprawling, ever-shifting amalgam of DIY music genres spanning the past 50 years (recently described as a "one band John Peel show"). The band's latest single, Ascending, has been championed by 6Music and described as “a rolling country-inspired piece of jingle jangle loveliness” and “reckless pop music”. Live, Fists are a woozy, kaleidoscopic and riotously fun affair. www.myspace.com/fistsmusic WE SHOW UP ON RADAR Multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrew Wright, plus a revolving cast of supporting musicians. In equal parts the optimism and sheer joy of the Flaming Lips; the despair and futility of Daniel Johnston; the storytelling of Colin Meloy; and the wide-eyed imagination of a child who has stared right through the looking glass. Gentle, mischievious and magical indie pop music to dream to. www.myspace.com/wsuor NOT COOL Gutter pop pioneers specialising in frenetic, melodic and slightly demented post punk. Think warm, fuzzy guitars. Think Fugazi or Pavement, but from Downham, south London. Their brilliant debut mini LP Rugged Raw is out now on Sleep All Day Records. www.myspace.com/notcoolisaband Doors 4pm - 8pm - FREE ENTRY! www.hellothor.com |
