Which Way Is Up! #6 Friday - June 17th. The Wilmington Arms 69 Rosebery Avenue Clerkenwell, EC1R 4RL Tickets £5 - http://www.wegottickets.com/event/113826 ★ Milky Wimpshake ★ Currently signed to indiepop label of the moment Fortuna POP! (Allo Darlin, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart). Milky Wimpshake have got a history and are referred to by some as punk folk or even twee skiffle, they’re considered witty, satirical, and both irritating and utterly enjoyable, Newcastle Upon Tyne based Milky Wimpshake have released numerous singles and compilation tracks on assorted indie labels since forming in 1993. The indefatigable and slowly ascending UK based act have sporadically put out four full albums, the latest being the fab "My Funny Social Crime" in 2010. ★ The Wind Up Birds ★ http://thewind-upbirds.bandcamp.com// http://www.myspace.com/thewindupbirds The Wind-Up Birds are occasionally spotted by the keenest observers in the West Yorkshire region of Northern Britain. They make a punky pop racket. They remind me a little of Art Brut. Or Mark E Smith. "exhilarating rant-rock… a deceptively indie-rock format soon giving way to an enjoyably psychotic temperament." - Artrocker "Articulate, aggressive, and determinedly northern indie. They place the spotlight firmly on their wordy ‘singer’ … his approach places him within a lineage of urgent, literate, speak-singing frontmen which began with Mark E Smith and includes talents like Art Brut’s Eddie Argos … The band provide a perfect backdrop, taut and tense when they need to be, crashing and furious at other points. You’ll be singing the choruses to surging opener ‘Good Shop Shuts’ and angry political rant ‘Some Slum Clearances’ long after the EP’s last note has sounded." – Contact Music ★ The Kick Inside ★ http://www.myspace.com/thekickinside The first ever band to be released on Odd Box, fact fans, these Bristolians make beautifully crafted jangle pop and in guitarist Thomas they have a genuine indiepop 'guitar hero'! That's not say to the band have forgotten about the tunes. They've got bucket loads of those. With nods to bands like The Brilliant Corners and The Smiths the band are slowly building up a cult following. Guest DJ: Paul Richards (Scared To Dance) |
