cue: spits and groans from the haters of silly-corporate-branded-music-competitions The deadline has passed for entries and I for one have a bizarre and somewhat perverse interest in The Mercurys. I have done since 1995 when I watched the nominations being revealed on the telly. It featured the likes of Portishead, PJ Harvey (pink cat suit period - maybe that's where my interest stemmed from!), Supergrass, Leftfield, Oasis and Tricky. My young teen self thought it was pretty cool seeing the albums I'd been listening to on my own in my bedroom now being shown on the telly. The lists for the last few years have been a bit hit and miss but this year could be a really interesting one, and, well, it's a bit of fun isn't it. My guesses/hopes for nominees are: PJ Harvey - Let England Shake Wild Beasts - Smother Hannah Peel - The Broken Wave Everything Everything - Man Alive Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi Pete and the Pirates - One Thousand Pictures Metronomy - English Riviera Incidentally, they're all albums I really like. Any more for any more? |

I wouldn't know where to hazzard a guess, really. I think you might be spot on with PJ Harvey. Aside from that.....(not sure). They have to be British don't they? |

Don't worry, it doesn't seem to tick enough of the boxes to make the bookies' shortlists. (btw when Googling to check I noticed this thread was n the first page of results - BJ's obviously been putting the time in...) Oh and going back to the OP - since when was telly spelled "tele"? That's nearly as wrong as this (if only there were a commonly used abbreviation of 'telephone'...): |
