Ok, we're now at the business end of this highly esteemed contest with the three vilest pop stars battling it out for the mighty accolade. At this point you need to vote FOR the vilest, not the least vile. Sting won it in 2009 and 2007. Mariah Carey won it in 2006, and 2005's contest was aborted half way through when the vilest pop stars were all kicked out early on because the organiser couldn't facilitate a drinky in a booze factory. Anyway vote early and vote, er, once. |

Watched some of that songwriting doc on BBC2 on Sat 'cos my eldest couldn't sleep and we needed something age appropriate. Sting nearly got all the way through his 8,766th interview about Every Breath without being a nobber. Nearly. He signed off with a wink to camera that made my eyes want to crawl out of my skull and immolate themselves for the shame of having seen it. Main focus was on Guy Chambers and Rufus Wainwright. My fave lowlight wasn't even the soon to be legendary bit where Rufus decides that it's a good idea to randomly insert the title of Roxette's greatest hits into a song called World War 3 because he can't think of anything else. (Guy Chambers, who clearly didn't make his money disagreeing with the 'talent', reckons said "don't bore us, get to the chorus" "adds a touch of Oscar Wilde".) No the best bit is where they feel the need to turn to the Rhyming Dictionary to find a rhyme for 'battle', which according to Guy is " a bastard to rhyme" at which point the four year old on my lap instantly comes up with 'rattle' and 'cattle' while Rufus and Guy opt for, erm, 'saddle'. "but saddle doesn't rhyme with battle, dad" "no love, you're right, it doesn't"... |

Just to add that you might not learn a lot about songwriting from Guy Chambers, but you'l learn plenty about sales. The section where he sells RW an (admittedly rather nice) piano riff by playing it in the middle of two boring ones is a classic. |

Only caught 35 minutes of that programme but really enjoyed it. Have been humming that annoying song they wrote all morning. And agree about Sting, he almost came across ok on that programme. Almost. So was that the first in a short series? I'd like to see others. |

yeah yeah *shuffles around a bit* ... I definitely voted Sting too ![]() Actually, this reminds me of a time a (totally hammered) friend of mine was at some industry event. Bono walked into the room, the room went silent and this guy shouted "OI BONGO, YOU CUNT!" ... he was swiftly ejected. |
