Odd Box is celebrating a fine year of Which Way Is Up! shows at The Wilmington Arms with four cracking bands. Tickets will be £6 in advance (link coming soon) and £7 on the door. Doors 8pm. There will be mince pies and other festive goodies! ★ Shrag ★ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shrag/19167559456 http://shragband.wordpress.com/ Shrag are our favourite band. We love them. They've just finished recording their new album. They mix up noisy pop songs with catchy as fuck tunes. They're probably the best live band on our isle fronted by the enigmatic Helen King. They've headlined shows across Europe and toured the UK with The Cribs. They're just finishing up their 3rd album. If it's half as good as last years 'Life! Death! Prizes!' we are in for a treat. “Shrag are a sharp poppy post-punk band smearing their own dark lip gloss on sex and gender…” Pitchfork ★ Just Handshakes (We're British) ★ http://justhandshakeswerebritish.tumblr.com/ From Leeds. Signed to the awesome Elefant Records (Spain). Just Handshakes (We're British) are something of a rarity these days, a British indiepop band that are worth shouting about. Their recent 7" 'New Adventures In Pop' is bright pop music that will make you smile large. The band have played London Popfest and Indietracks in 2011. We think 2012 will be a big year for Just Handshakes (We're British). Come catch them before they take off! ★ Baaneex ★ http://baaneex.com/ Baaneex are Odd Box favourites. Earlier in 2011 we released their debut EP 'Weird Dance'. In 2012 we will be releasing more records by Baaneex because we adore them. Baaneex blend woozy lo-fi pop with a big dirty guitars and a smattering of punky pop hooks. Their live shows are a rollercoaster of noise and energy. Part punk, part pop, all heart. ★ Pale Man Made ★ http://palemanmade.bandcamp.com/ Pale Man Made from Newcastle takes touches of the best 80 and 90s indie, add a caustic commentary on work, animals, politics and sport and engulf in a whirlwind of boy-girl fuzzy pop. I recently saw them at the Nottingham Indiepop all dayer and they blew me away. Mining a seam of pop tunes last touched by Urusei Yatsura. |
