...I enjoyed the article this great anecdote came from in the Guardian today - 'It wasn't the best of starts. The first match, a quarter of a century ago, was a 2-0 defeat on a bumpy pitch at Oxford United. In the dressing room, Alex Ferguson was finding it hard to disguise his nerves. "I can remember him naming the team," Peter Davenport says. "He went through the defence and midfield and said: 'Right, up front, Frank and Nigel. OK lads?' There was a pause, then Robbo said: 'Nigel? Who's Nigel?' Fergie points at me and goes: 'Him, Nigel Davenport.' He'd got me confused with the actor from Howards' Way." Comedy gold... |

Unbelievable in this day and age for any manager to have lasted longer than 5 years, let alone 25. I hate him for his control over the media and FA but respect him highly for his immense ability and politics. Anyway twisting this thread considerably to avoid any fights I will move this thread on to feature embarrassing anecdotes about your own club that clearly are of general amusement and not invites to "have a pop" From me... |
