Some time around 1980 I saw Auntie Pus at the first (and last) London Pathetic Punk Festival. The guitarist was about twice the age of the rest of the band. About three years later I saw the same guy playing guitar for The Mekons. Recognising him from the earlier gig, I engaged him in conversation about Auntie Pus. I later in the evening found out that he was Dick Taylor, legendary guitarist with The Pretty Things and founder member of The Rolling Stones. I must be the only person ever to go up to him and say "Didn't you used to play guitar with Auntie Pus?"

Am now at that bit in the BSP book where they go and play the Scillonian Club, would warm the cockles of Kev's heart if he could forgive the frequent terminological infelicities viz the islands' name.

They are very scrawny, I'm not surprised they needed the layers.

As for the book, I knew no-one actually read the reviews on the main site... It's called Do It For Your Mum, written by their brother. Highly recommended. The trip to the Isles of Scilly gets a relatively generous four or five pages. A few bits of local colour, my fave being "We didn't get out to Bishop's Rock lighthouse either. The band did make an on-stage announcement for any volunteers with a boat to take us out the next day. And one young man did enthusiastically volunteer his services after the show. He talked very quickly while his eyes rolled independently in their orbits. Other locals vigorously advised us not to let him take us out to sea..."

Hang on. You were mending an outboard motor, did you say..?
