The first Which Way Is Up! of 2012. Friday 20th January. The Wilmington Arms, 69 Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell, EC1 4RL. As always its £5 in advance and £6 on the door. ✚ Chips For The Poor ✚ http://www.chipsforthepoor.com/ In recent months, CFTP have been racking up some notable live outings around Northern house parties, East London squat pubs and South Side Windmills supporting the likes of DD/MM/YYYY, Damo Suzuki, Bobby Conn and Eat Skull, plus local flash flood IKEA heroes. "Like a box of frogs jumpin' hard and fast" - Odd Box Records “Tell Your Mum, Bolan's Back!” (Airplay on Radio 1, XFM, NME and ResonanceFM) "The return of Chips for the Poor, which is obviously a moment for rejoice, fantastic" - John Kennedy, XFM. "It's a banger" - Huw Stephens, Radio 1. "A favourite and veritable oddball - artist of the week" - Cloud Sounds. 'Broken Britain in full effect - Single of the week' - Organ Magazine. ✚ Chapter 24 ✚ http://chapter24band.blogspot.com/ New single 'Spindle' / '4454' is Art Rocker's single of the month. Chapter 24 release two gems of unclassifiable brilliance - double a-side 'spindle' and '4454', on odd box records - so say Rough Trade Shops. They go on to say they sound like a sexy frankenstein modelled from the various limbs of bow wow wow, ramones and hawkwind members. '4454' manages to combine stoner-doom, erase errata erraticness, bush tetras-style funk and sleater kinney-esque scuzz, resulting in an anthem for non-generic music fans. Who are we to argue? They last played for Odd Box back at our Weekender in May 2011. They were one of THE bands of the weekend. ✚ Diaphragm Failure ✚ http://www.diaphragmfailure.com/ Be afraid. Diaphragm Failure are newcomers to Which Way Is Up! and they make a frightening racket. Live I've been told to expect the unexpected. I like that. "6 piece London based improv circus/hole band. A new breed of performing arts, fearless, fun, slightly disturbing, entertaining, inspiring, dancey, trancey, punky and psychedelic. Basically the sound of 2020' BBC Musique |
