At the end of each year in Music we were allowed to play our records to the rest of the class. In 1977 I chose Boris the Spider. Then one of the other kids put on I Feel Love. It was hard to ignore the fact that the future had arrived. "In the future," it said, "women will gush ecstatic nonsense about feelings above the relentless pounding of machines". That turned out to be 100% correct. And I always think that the key moment in the track is when they (ie, Moroder and Bellote) fade out the vocal so you can hear the important thing about the song: the impressive but chilling perfection of the sequencer. And here we are today. |
