Another of the UK's fine vinyl record emporiums is closing. There's a 25% off all marked prices closing down sale starting tomorrow. (Monday 17th Sept). No stock has been removed in anticipation of the sale, so plenty of good stuff to be had. No haggling!!! Intoxica 231 Portobello Road London, W11 1LT, UK |

Sad news. Saying that - even at 25% off it'll be the same price as some online retailers...... |

I don't know how any retail unit selling something other than a value added service (ie hardressing or takeaway, etc) can survive these days. The rent on shops is ridiculous. Even small shops on high streets have an overhead of £15-25k a year, more in busy areas. In some areas the owners of the shop can set the rent artificially high and not worry about whether they are filled or not as they have so many properties. In Crystal Palace, the main shopping areas is three streets connected as a triangle. Three people own practically all the 150 or so properties between them. Some of those have been vacant for nearly 20 years but they don't care as long as 80% are taken. No wonder out of town malls and the internet are booming. |
