I Loved The Troggs. Reg is an absolute legend. One of my favourite memories of Reg was hearing him interviewed by Emma Freud on GLR about the time that Wet Wet Wet were number one with their cover of Love Is All Around. Reg told how he was working on building site when he heard that Wild Thing had gone to number one and with his broad west country accent declared "I threw down my trowel and told my mates "share out my tools lads!". He then went on to speak at length about his other passion, UFOs and crop circles. Eventually talk moved on to Wet Wet Wet and Freud asked if Reg knew how much money he'd earnt from their their covering Love Is All Around. Reg said he hadn't worked it out, but thought it would be around £2 million. Freud in a voice that sounded more than a little condescending, broke it to the person she clearly considered to be a rather simple UFO obsessed country yokel that the true figure was about £800 000, but that was "still a lot of money" and then went on to break down how she'd worked it out. After she finished her lengthy explanation of her breakdown, Reg calmly replied "ah, but Emma, you've only worked it out on British sales. Wet Wet Wet have been number one in 47 countries, so if anything I've seriously underestimated it".
R.I.P. Reg. Truly one of a kind!
