I've watched Mumford and Sons from 3rd on the bill at the Luminaire, and supporting Laura Marling early doors to my teenage daughter now loving them. They were shite to start with, then got a lot better, then just got bland. Hopefully,for her, they're just a gateway band to better things They're just far too Jesusy for me now. I've listened to their Babel LP 3 times, as is the rule, and I would say say that 80% about it is religion based - and that just rubs me up the wrong way. It's not even being troubled by faith songs, like Johnny Cash or Nick Cave do well, it's just arse-kissing |

Harsh, James, harsh. I don't like them because their music didn't evolve and I got bored with their sound. They have a songwriting style which they repeat for every number (quiet, slow, build up, noisy, repeat to fade, with 'earnest' pleading vocals). It worked ok for a couple of singles, was pushing it for a whole LP but when the second album came out and was exactly the same it got bloody irritating. And he's an arse. |
