Any Doors fans? I went through a late teen fascination with Jim Morrison (didn't everyone?) but am not sure if the music has aged that well. Anyway, sad news about RM, although I'm a bit fed up of hearing that organ intro from Light My Fire on every news bulletin! |

The Doors - one of the greats it's not cool to like, probably due to the movie and the post death image of Jim Morrison. If The Doors had been as unknown as, say, The Monks, they would be lauded by many who dismiss them. But they were simply far too good to remain underground! Easily one of the most accomplished and original debut albums of all time. Easily one of the most unique musical three pieces to operate successfully within the parameters of pop/rock. Easily one of the most iconic frontmen of all time. A truly great band, and Manzarek was such a key part of that unique sound. Making a 60s electric organ sound somehow mystical and ancient. And such a cool guy too. Really saddened to hear of his passing, and especially sad for his soulmate, and now widow, Dorothy. What a contribution he made, and a great life. RIP. |

Hmm. I always thought it WAS cool to like them. Particularly in your teens and early 20s. I never got into them because so many middle-aged pub bands sound pretty much the same - now I know I'm kind of looking at it the wrong way round there, and at the time this wouldn't have been the case, but I've always found them dull barring a small number of tracks. Just never got them. But RIP nonetheless, they're very important to many people. |

Not sude it's ever been cool to like the Doors. Not sure why as Morrison obviously ticks most boxes. Never been a big fan though they did the odd classic - People are strange for starters. |

Ray paid me a visit last night and this is what he is saying at the moment to all the dead musicians upstairs. |
